And EJ Liddell Makes Ohio State a Top Contender

EJ Liddell

It's final: EJ Liddell has decided to go with Ohio State, a decision that broke the heart of Illinois and Missouri on Monday night. The two states were hoping up to the very last minute if something would sway the top 50 prospect to make a decision in their favor. Unfortunately, the force wasn't in them.

In the end, it wasn't an individual decision. EJ Liddell made the fateful choice in consultation with his first team: his family. For this, the Buckeyes have much to celebrate about the impending acquisition.

Ohio States 2019 Class

After all, the extremely tall EJ Liddell adds one more mighty powerhouse to a team that has been receiving a lot of extra boosts lately in terms of sign ups. With three of the 50 major commitments already coming their way, the Buckeyes are definitely the team to beat in terms of the potential lineup. EJ Liddell is definitely sending tremors down the spines of the other teams the moment his decision was announced.

Such an extremely powerful lineup for the Buckeyes in the very near future is nothing short of Herculean proportions. The EJ Liddell decision in Ohio State's favor had a lot to do with achieving almost instantaneous bromance with the rest of the team from the No. 48's Labor Day visitation. In EJ Liddell's own words, the male bonding couldn't have been any better, particularly with Alonzo Gaffney or DJ Carton.

CormontaeHamilton

Things are turning Buckeye these days, with Cormontae Hamilton being the latest one to bite the dust. The triple star tight end from Tennessee was the next man to pledge his undying love for the Ohio State team. Cormontae Hamilton's surrender to higher Ohio State power has made it a tie with Florida State.

Excellent Class for Urban Meyer

At eight pledges for both school camps, things are really heating up. And that makes the 2020 class of Ohio two pledges shy of the two. The recent Cormontae Hamilton pledge really upped the ante for his 2019 class, making it an honest-to-goodness pledge magnet. As the class' #15, Cormontae Hamilton brings real class to a tight ender's job and Ohio State can't ask for more.

2020 Safety Lejond Cavazos Is A Perfect Fit At OSU

Lejond Cavazos

When it comes to Lejond Cavazos Ohio State has had him pegged for quite some time, and it not looks like he finally committed to the Buckeyes organization. He plans to enter OSU in 2020 as a safety, which is a position that the college could use right now. While the news isn't particularly shocking, it has taken more than a year for Cavazos to commit after picking up his scholarship offer.

Long Battle for the Commitment

OSU has been trying to get Cavazos to commit for nearly 23 months now, and he's been one of the schools top defensive targets for even longer than that. He's no stranger to the campus either since he visited the school four times. Cavazos met with the coaching staff during all four visits.

Considering his proximity to the school as well as how much OSU will need a safety in 2020, some might say that he should have committed a while ago. He wanted to take some time to make sure that he was making the right decision, however, and therefore he waited until recently to make an announcement on his Twitter account.

Ohio State Gets Garrett Wilson

GarrettWilson

Garrett Wilson Officially Commits to Ohio State

It's official! On April 29, five-star wide receiver, Garrett Wilson made a firm commitment to go to Ohio State rather than University of Texas Austin.

Considered the fifth-best wide receiver and overall number 29 prospect in the Class of 19, Wilson was not short on offers with more than 30.

Spent Time in Dublin Ohio

Even though he spent his formative years in Texas, having moved from Dublin, Ohio to Lake Travis in the 6th grade, Garret Wilson still remembers his Ohio roots and had good things to say about Buckeye fans. He referred to them as "best in the country" and remembers the atmosphere at Ohio State as, "awesome".

In late March, Wilson made a trip back to attend a Spring practice. He was able to visit relatives and friends who still lived in the Columbus area and then met on campus with Ohio State's coaching staff including Urban Meyer, Zach Smith, and Ryan Day. Wilson noted that Ohio State could set him up for the NFL draft but if for some reason things didn't work out they could provide opportunities and connections that would enable him to be successful even after football.

Jake Wray Set To Play For Buckeyes

JakeWray

Jake Wray seems to have made an early decision to play for OSU when his time comes. The Franklin HS star will more than likely follow through with his commitment, considering that this would help to reunite him with his brother Max who's currently enrolled at OSU. They played together while they were both on the Franklin team.

At 6-foot 5-inches and 290 lbs., Jake Wray is a large offensive lineman who expects to graduate in 2020 barring any unforeseen circumstances. That means he would be able to suit up for the 2021 season at the earliest.

Having transferred to Marietta HS in Georgia last fall after a dispute with officials, both brothers were forced to miss the final two games of the season. The dispute apparently stems from the way that the coaches handled injured players, which apparently caused some sort of an issue with his parents.

Ronnie Hickman Commits To Ohio State

RonnieHickman

Ronnie "Rocket" Hickman is set to dazzle the Buckeyes 2019 recruitment class. With Ohio State getting a commitment pledge from the 6-foot, 200 pounder on Friday, the Rocket will bring much needed offense and defense to the team. Hickman is also a member of a class totaling four members now -- joining 4-star Doug Nester, lineman. The squad will also include RB Sampson James, along with 3 star lineman Ryan Jacoby.

The class is currently rated the 21st best in the nation, as well as the 5th best in the conference, the Big Ten. The commitment, however, was not easy for Ronnie "Rocket" Hickman. In fact, he was touted by Penn State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and others. As a product of DePaul Catholic, Hickman was rated an all-star athlete -- playing both defensive back and wide receiver. In his junior year, he amassed 809 yards receiving with ten touchdowns. He also had 47 tackles, two interceptions and was 2nd in yards at 945.

Alonzo Gaffney Decides To Become A Buckeye

Alonzo Gaffney

Alonzo Gaffney decided to stay close to home when he attends college, which should be welcome news for fans who hoped that the forward would play for a college in his home state.

Chris Holtmann said that he was going to lock down Ohio's state borders as soon as he took the OSU head coaching job. He made his first big accomplishment toward achieving this goal when the five-star forward agreed to commit.

Since he can play multiple positions, Alonzo Gaffney has a great deal to offer OSU. His stock started to really climb in July, and many ranked him near the 18th prospect in their charts for this recruiting class.

Ryan Jacoby: A Solid Beginning For Ohio State's Recruits Of 2019

RyanJacoby

Mentor Ohio's offensive lineman Ryan Jacoby brings his skills to Ohio State as commitment number two of the 2019 class of recruits. His statistics place him at number 356 overall player, number 39 tackle for his class, and within the top ten prospects of the state, which in turn makes him a four star selection.

The Ohio native opted for a local college over a long list of other institutions, including Michigan, Purdue, Northwestern, and more. His preference for the more local Ohio State and the Buckeyes is explained here in his comments.

What Does Ryan Jacoby Have to Offer the Buckeyes?
Jacoby and fellow new recruit, West Virginia's Doug Nester, are filling Ohio's very real need for offensive lineman in this recruiting class. The 6 foot five, 270 pound commit steps outside of the parameters of leaner and consequently faster linemen of Ohio State's prior years. With a fingertip to fingertip span that exceeds his height, Jacoby shows great promise. He's quick and can maneuver himself to stop linebackers and block players, even when distanced from the line of scrimmage. He has a versatility that could have him playing guard, or even tackle. His adaptability makes him a valuable choice who can fill a variety of roles.

What Chris Olave's Commitment Means For The Buckeyes

ChrisOlave2

Similar in body type, playing style and even background, I have to say that Chris Olave reminds me of a younger Devin Smith. That may seem like a bit of overkill for some Ohio State fans, I get it, but Chris Olave will have to earn that comparison and I believe him to be up to the task.

The comparison comes based mostly on speed. As you know, Smith was not only a state-champion long-jumper but also a star on the track, making him a real crowd favorite. Olave is equally strong in track and field although he did not play football his junior year due to transfer rules. Despite that, he still earned several offers based on his basketball and track efforts... along with word of mouth. It was not until October that Ohio State offered Olave a contract after seeing him play in his first handful of senior season games.
