Offensive Guard Tyler Gerald Selects Ohio State Instead of Virginia Tech

Presently, college football recruitment and training is concentrating on the 2015 prospects. However, coaches are working on programs for the following year as well. Several major programs are running camps for future freshmen, while they begin their scouting for young players in high school. Plenty of information will be gathered about seniors and juniors.

Tyler Gerald, an Ohio based offensive guard prospect for 2016, was offered a scholarship by Virginia Tech Hokies on the 14th of May. A couple of days later, Ohio State followed suit. On the 8th of June, Virginia Tech brought Gerald in to do some training at the event they were holding that weekend. At this camp, Gerald was the main attraction and Virginia Tech furthered their cause.

Ultimately though, this didn't work out.

Today, Tyler Gerald visited the Buckeyes to participate in a similar event, to the event held by Virginia Tech. At this event, Gerald decided to join Ohio State. Presently, Gerald has a four star ranking with 247 Sports Composite. Furthermore, he is the country's seventh best offensive guard. Also, Gerald has been wooed by Toledo and Kent State, however those offers were somewhat optimistic, to say the least.

As far as Virginia Tech goes, this is disappointing, because Gerald has much to offer at six foot five and 300 pounds. He has the physical size to play in an offensive tackle position at college level. Alternatively, he could change while he's still a high school student. Nonetheless, there's no real need for Virginia to be too disappointed. In reality, it was always going to be difficult for them to tempt Gerald, in the face of competition from the Buckeyes. Undoubtedly, they still have plenty of time left to acquire his services.
