Ohio State Football - The Reason Urban Myer Needs to Land a Star Quarterback in 2015:

There is no way to argue with the facts concerning Urban Myer's track record with recruiting. Through 3 solid recruiting cycles in Columbus, this Ohio State Coach managed to bring three top-5 classes to the Buckeyes:

5th Best in the country - 2012
2nd ranked class - 2013
3rd ranked class -2014

In the 2012 season, he arrived on campus having only 2 months left to go before the national signing day, and managed to turn a very unimpressive class into 5th best in the country. That is impressive.

However, during the first 2 1/2 years in the drivers seat at Ohio State, there was one specific position that eluded this 2-tie national champion head coach. This position is actually the most important position on the field.

In spite of his successful track record created by athletes like Alex Smith, Braxton Miller, Tim Tebow, and Josh Harris, Meyer has still seen attracting a star quarterback into Columbus elude him. Of course Danny Clark, a 2017 commit sophomore hangs in the wings, yet there is a 2-season gap that separates Miller's departure and Danny Clarks' arrival.

It's not like Ohio State hasn't added any signal callers since the arrival of Myer, because they have. In 2012 they signed Cardale Jones, in 2013 it was J.T. Barrett, and in 2014 Stephen Collier, in the last 3 classes. Meyer still hasn't landed a blue-chip, big-name quarterback for OSU. The Buckeyes missed out on talent like Kyle Allen and Deshaun Watson just a year ago. Barrett might have been OSUs top 2013 choice, but he lacks the necessary star power and athleticism that made Terrel Pryor and Braxton Miller the successes they were over the past 7 years in Columbus.

Fortunately for the Buckeyes and Myer, a top quarterback target for their 2015 season, remains uncommitted. All signs indicate that Torrance Gibson, a Fort Lauderdale American Heritage Five-Star quarterback, has all the qualifications to hit another peak for OSU.

Just a few weeks ago it appeared as if OSU had ended the pursuit of this Sunshine State star. But now, that no longer seems to be true. OSUs 'Friday Night Lights' camp is coming up soon, and Gibson told Cleveland.com days ago that he's planning to make his first trip up to Columbus for a look-around visit.

Later on, Gibson used his Twitter account to confirm his visit. This bodes very well for OSU. They have managed to stay at the forefront in terms of Gibson's recruitment, in spite of the fact he has yet to pay them a visit. Gibson is 6'4" and 200 lbs. He is athletically freaky when compared to Pryor and Miller who could actually step right up and have an immediate impact on Meyer's spread offense.

It won't be easy to land Gibson, as this dual-threat quarterback has made multiple trips to visit Tennessee and Auburn already. He has also shown quite a bit of interest in LSU. Miami (Florida) still is a recruiting factor for Gibson, but this trip to Columbus can only be viewed as a positive sign for OSUs chances.

With no clear successor for Miller's departure, this trip by Gibson to Columbus might well be OSUs most important visit this year. No-one is expecting a commitment from Gibson from this visit, or anytime soon. He has many of the top schools in the nation after him. However, for a football program that has one star heading out the door, the wait could be well worth it.
