Ohio State lands 3-Star Recruit

The Ohio State Buckeyes have landed their first guard recruit from the class of 2017. Braxton Beverly, a PG from Hargrave Military Academy in Hazard, KY, has formally committed to play for the team next season. Beverly is a 3-star recruit.

This is a relief to the Buckeyes. They were on the hunt for a guard to bolster their one-man recruiting class for next year. Their only recruit is a 4-star Center from Westerville, OH, Kaleb Wesson. He was heavily recruited on a national level but chose to stay in state and play for coach Matta at OSU.

Beverly is just 5ft 11in and 170 pounds. That makes him slightly different than the usual guard that Matta is known to recruit. He is hoping to make up for his lack of size with his talent. Beverly is joining his former high school teammate, Derek Funderburk, on the Buckeyes.

The recruiting class could still use some further bolstering. The Buckeyes lost some players after the 2015 season to transfer. Ohio State thought that their roster would be a little thicker this year than it turned out to be. The added guard and center of this recruiting class should help them do that next season. It will be interesting to see what Matta and his assistants have in store for the rest of the recruiting class this year.
