Elijah Gardiner Commits to Ohio State

Elijah Gardiner is a three-star wide receiver from Kemp, Texas. Gardiner committed to Ohio State although it was thought that he would have committed to Missouri. This reflects the volatility of the recruitment process as National Signing Day approaches.

Yesterday afternoon, Gardiner announced his choice as Ohio State after his first visit to Columbus.

Gardiner, who stands at 185 pounds and 6-foot-5, committed to Missouri in November. Earlier this month, Tyjon Lindsey reopened his recruitment and at that time, Gardiner started to show on Ohio State's radar. Ohio State needs a third receiver to work with Jaylen Harris and Trevon Grimes so they contacted Gardiner and other talented rising stars including Oliver Martin and James Robinson.

Earlier this week, offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson and head coach Urban Meyer visited Gardiner in Texas. They convinced him to make an official visit. Gardiner was supposed to visit Texas that same week but the need at Ohio State is more dire than the Longhorns'.

The visit allowed the two sides to learn about each other, however, the Buckeyes had to take action because the National Signing Day was close. Once an offer was made, Gardiner made the decision to take the offer.

Gardiner now joins Harris and Grimes and becomes the 20th member of the 2017 recruitment class at Ohio State which is ranked 2nd in the nation behind Alabama.
