When Marcus Crowley Flipped To The Buckeyes

Marcus Crowley

Running Back Marcus Crowley has announced on Twitter that he will be a Buckeye in 2019. Crowley has flipped his commitment to Ohio State and will be leaving Miami of Florida. This decision was announced Nov 6th, 2017 after an official visit to Ohio with Trinity Christian Head Coach Verlon Dorminey. Crowley saw the Buckeyes defeat the Nebraska Cornhuskers, keeping their dreams alive of winning the Big Ten Championship and thus playing in the college football play-off.

In early October Sampson James made an unofficial visit to Ohio State intent on seeing the Buckeyes play Indiana. James soon after had decomitted from Ohio State in order to commit to Indiana, leaving a spot open. The Buckeyes thus quickly sprang into action recruiting other potential running backs, with Coach Tony Alford talking with Jacksonville's Trinity Christian running back Crowley. Crowley hails from the same high schools as Ohio State's current backs Tyreke Johnson and Shaun Wade. Crowley was offered a scholarship to break his commitment.

Crowley is having an amazing senior season. He pushed past the 1000 yard rushing mark in just seven games, with a total rush of 1164 yard with just 114 carries, or 10.2 yards per carry. He had 14 touchdowns with a long run of 95 yards. He also caught 7 passes with an average of 18.6 yards per reception. This makes Crowley a good fit for the Buckeyes and should be able to help them pursue their dreams of playing in the play-offs down the road.

The 6'1" 190 pound Crowley has an offer list that also included Florida, Georgia, Penn State, and Virginia Tech. As per recent recruiting stats he is a 3-star prospect, listed as the country's 35th running back and the 77th prospect in Florida. With a few years of college play under his belt Crowley should be able to graduate to the professional leagues.

Class of 2019

Crowley will replace James in the Buckeye's Class of 2019. Along with him, Urban Meyer now has a total of 15 verbal commitments to play for the Class of 2019, including quarterback Dwan Mathis, running back Steele Chambers, offensive linemen Ryan Jacoby, Harry Miller, and Doug Nester, linebacker Cade Stover, wide receivers Jameson Williams ad Garret Wilson, H-Back and tight end Cormontae Hamilton, defensive end Noah Potter, defensive back Jordan Battle, safety/athletes Bryson Shaw and Ronnie Hickman, and athlete Craig Young.

Meyer also has six Class of 2020 commitments: Quarterback Jack Miller, offensive tackles Jake Wray and Paris Johnson, running back Darvon Hubbard, defensive back Lejond Cavazos, and center/guard Luke Wypler. This class is currently ranked 3rd in the country.

Alford had attempted to flip Katy, TX, running black Deondrick Glass who also made the trip to watch the Nebraska game. The Buckeyes have managed to maintain contact with Bradenton, FL, running back Noah Cain, but he will not be taking the place of James in the Class of 2019. His current roster and commitments should make for some great Buckeye football in the coming years.
