2014 Recruiting And The Buckeyes

Recruiting an elite football team is a balancing act that few coaches can do better than urban Meyer. The 22 recruits of the Ohio state football team is a perfect example of this. The Buckeyes main concern for the next season has been the linebacker and the offensive line. Meyer and other coaches have however addressed these concerns successfully as the official signing day approaches.

How Did Ohio handled this?

Linebacker

The Buckeyes brought in Mike Mitchell and Trey Johnson to fill out the depth. Meyer also went ahead and secured 4 highly regarded 4-star recruits. The search started early last year when Sam Hubbard announced his commitment to the Buckeyes and Kyle Berger followed suit. Six weeks later after Berger made his announcement; Dante Booker did the same, giving the Ohio state football team 3 of the best linebackers. The hottest prospect in the 2014 recruiting cycle for the Buckeyes was 5-star linebacker Raekwon McMillan.  So far, this group of linebackers is the best in the country according to 247 sports.

Offensive Line

The offensive line was the biggest concern for Ohio State in the 2014 recruiting. Ohio lost four of its 5-starters at a go, which created a questionable depth last season, and the situation doesn't seem to change much for them this year either. The only way to deal with this is for the Buckeyes to bring in their five recruits. Marcelys Jones who expressed his commitment in December 2012 and Kyle Trout, a highly regarded offensive tackle from Lancaster. Jones and Trout both enrolled quite early. Jamarco Jones is another target that Meyer wills to successfully acquire, who unfortunately for Meyer and the team, has shown interest in Michigan State.

In closing the 2014 recruiting, Meyer flipped Demetrius Knox and Brady Taylor to commit to Buckeyes. Provided that Ohio State keeps Jones in the fold, they will have the No. 2 offensive line class in the country. Regardless, the Buckeyes have done enough for the 2014 recruiting.
